ODC’s "My Name is Gold" impresses with confidence and sharpness

French powerhouse ODC continues to push boundaries and challenge the status quo with their new single, "My Name is Gold." This searing cut, the third from their upcoming record "Twisted Love," sees the band continue to stake out new territory as fearless genre chameleons and agents provocateurs.

Out of Nashville and produced by Kellen McGregor Memphis May Fire, released through Black II Black Records, Frontiers Music's dedicated metal sub-label, "My Name is Gold" is a heady mix part 2000s nu metal recollections with some choice cuts from late in the game when boyband-ish pop came slathered in rap-infused mall bullying that claimed as much Viva Glam lipgloss to bruised mouths. It's hooky, aggressive, and edgy. Lead vocals smoothly transition from melody to commanding attention, with equal parts charisma and conviction. The track builds, breaks, and bounces with the confidence of its rhythm, it never loses sight of what it's there to communicate or how it does so with cool elegance.

Between the headbangable riffs and razor-edge breakdowns is a biting, satirical commentary. "My Name is Gold" satirizes the prevailing fixation on fame, status, and superficial worth in our world today. It seems that actual value only gleams when it's gilded. ODC doesn't just sing about the rot beneath the glitz, they rub it in our faces, as we nod along. With "My Name is Gold," ODC has made more than a metal banger. They've gifted a gold-plated mirror, maybe! Still, it reflects something honest. It's bold. It's brash. And it could be their most persuasive argument yet.
