Uncle Fester on Acid delivers a shelf-shaking remix of “Abazir”

There's dub, and then there's the kind of low-end magic that shakes the ground while keeping the spirit of the original alive. Meet Uncle Fester on Acid, ON-U Sound label's tripolar alter ego. Patrick Dokter, also known as Dr. Dub, archivist and resident DJ for the ON-U Sound label is recognized for his collaborations with Adrian Sherwood, Youth & Gaudi, Tackhead, MarkStewart, Dub Syndicate, African Head Charge, Asian Dub Foundation, Afro Celt Sound System, and numerous others. His remix of "Abazir" doesn't just bring a song back, it blows it up from the inside.

"Abazir," which was first made by Polish electrodub master Lukasz Dinort, already had a well-thought-out structure. Fester respects that framework by keeping the arrangement's backbone and pushing his crazy knobs into new areas. What happened? A loud bassbin troubler and an unapologetic shelf wobbler, made to make the sound system work as well as possible.

This is the second single from the new label, Dubsyndrome Records, and it carries a lot of weight. The AA side has a remix of Bass Weapon by Youth and Gaudi that adds even more firepower. This drop is a statement of intent from the label's early catalog.

Fester's take is so interesting because it balances order and disorder. The original pulse is still there, but the bass gets heavier, the space between hits widens, and the atmosphere thickens. It's dubbed as a physical experience, pressure you can feel in your chest, and echoes that spread out like smoke in a dark room.
