Buenos Diaz’s “Cocaine Queen” spins a web of chaos and charm

Buenos Diaz is back with a strong message, "Cocaine Queen." The band's third full-length album and music video, released by Wormhole Records, is an immersive journey through sound, style, and unapologetic experimentation.

The song "Cocaine Queen" is a mix of different styles that goes back to 2010 in Brooklyn and the lo-fi alt-pop scene in Austin. The music and the whole album show how dedicated the band is to a vision that doesn't fit into any one genre. It took them more than five years to make. It has a lot of different sounds and styles, like a dream you can't quite put your finger on, but can't stop listening to.

Nick Diaz recorded it, Dan Workman, a veteran from Houston whose work includes ZZ Top and Beyoncé, mixed it, and Kevin Blackler, who has been nominated for a Grammy, mastered it in Brooklyn. "Cocaine Queen" has a polished, striking weight while keeping the intimacy and rough edges that make Buenos Diaz so interesting. Every song feels like a new chapter. For example, "Amplified Crickets" has a chirping, almost hypnotic sound, "Ronnie" has a groove-heavy story, and "Please Be Kind, Rewind" has a playful, experimental energy. The band's ability to combine sounds that don't seem to go together, like alt-pop, lo-fi textures, and genre-bending arrangements, makes each of the ten songs a mini adventure.

The music video for "Cocaine Queen" captures the song's eclectic spirit and showcases the band's creativity and unpredictable storytelling. The album's layered textures are reflected in the visual style, which draws people into the band's gritty, colorful, and full-of-possibilities world.

The album is only 35 minutes long, but it is full of ideas and personality. Buenos Diaz shows that they are more than just musicians, they are storytellers who weave a complex tapestry of sound and images that grabs your attention. "Cocaine Queen" is more than just an album, it's an offer you can't refuse.
