Up From Here returns with high-voltage pop-punk release "Cluttered Mind" [Review]

Up From Here comes back in a big way with "Cluttered Mind." It's a tune you hear, and your heart just gets shot through with all the emotions. The band melds skate punk, pop punk, and emo, returning to their riff-heavy roots. That gets at what fans love about the genre and injects their sound with a new kind of energy.

The track was recorded and produced with pop-punk phenom Seth Henderson, of State Champs and Real Friends fame. When the guitars kick in, "Cluttered Mind" is a perfect song for every moment when the two people in a fledgling relationship fail to understand each other. It's a simple theme of two people trying to talk to each other, attempting to understand one another, and failing spectacularly.

Up From Here harnesses that tension to write an anthem that encapsulates the emotional core of wanting to connect with someone and not having the right words or timing. Lead singer Danny Anderson turns in one of his strongest performances, transitioning seamlessly from melodic clarity to soaring intensity. His vocal range carries the heft of the story well, and so too does a sense of frustration and longing that feels genuine and immediate.

Fans of the genre will be obsessed with "Cluttered Mind," while new audiences will fall in love at first listen to its instant hooks and familiar narrative. It is fast, loud, honest, and brimming with the specific pop-punk ethic that keeps it alive. Up From Here has put out a fantastic record for 2026, and it's the perfect album to listen to. "Cluttered Mind" indicates that they're not just returning, but getting better.
