The DMV brothers' rapping duo, Jomega, has always had an element of aspiration and elevation in their music, and this release doubles down on that. With a brash, kinetic energy and Neptunes X Clipse influence that is impossible to mistake, "WANTED MORE" takes the full throttle leap into street racing culture of the early 2000s.
The beat bashes from the jump, a revving engine just before a drag strip showdown. There's an industrial slickness to the production, clean and punchy, yet never sterile. The bounce is hypnotic, straight out of the golden age of hip-hop, but retooled with a futuristic precision. It's rap with a pop appeal, hip-hop with an irreverent angle, and most of all, a track made to move.
"WANTED MORE" lyrically embodies the duo's signature themes of rising up, leveling up, and going for your goals against all odds. It's inspirational without getting preachy, mission-driven yet chill. You can see their hunger, but you also feel their clarity. They're not just talking about needing a little more: they're showing what it looks like to go get it.
What really makes this track shine, however, is its pervasive nature. "Whether you're racing down the highway, pulling up at a party, or just cruising to the store with the windows down, "WANTED MORE" fits the moment. It's a song that sounds like a movie, like it should be playing over the final scene of a montage of winning a street race, tires screeching, hearts pounding.
Jomega is still defining their path within alternative hip-hop, and "WANTED MORE" confirms they're not slowing down anytime soon. With this track, they have captured a sound that's reminiscent, ambitious, and impossible to stop listening to. So buckle up so much for staying in the shadows. Jomega just released the anthem for every underdog who wanted more and wasn't afraid to take it.
