Brett Gleason’s new single, “Sensory Deprived,” is a plea for connection and a mirror, reflecting our shoddy sense of self. The song dives into the emotional landscapes of dissociation, when overstimulation meets self-doubt, particularly for anyone negotiating life under a diagnosis or a survival-mode upbringing.
“Sensory Deprived” descends into the places we are taught to ignore the quiet panic of being overwhelmed and unheard. Performed, written, and recorded entirely by Gleason, there is nothing even remotely held back in the delivery. His voice winds through industrial textures and electronic undercurrents like a lifeline, frail and reclaimed.
Co-created with Blak Emoji, the production is full of contrast, icy synths throb against aching melodies, and jittery rhythms mirror the internal static of a mind pushed to the brink. This is ordered chaos scrubbed yet not cleaned, reflecting a world that demands moment-to-moment responses yet rarely offers us the space to feel safe in our own flawed skin.
