Aidan Bissett is back one year later, this time turning a telescope on the emotional turbulence of contemporary romance with his new single, "Are We in Love Yet?". Treading the line between infatuation and frustration, the track thrums with the anxious energy of a person waiting on a response they may never receive.
From the jump, a high-treble bassline gulps in anticipation, readying itself for Bissett's airy vocals to glide over sharp hits on the snare and punchy plucks of the guitar. It's indie-pop with teeth, every instrument carving its own little space but somehow fitting together perfectly. The song sounds good, sure, but it also feels good, imbued with the warmth of something familiar and yet new.
Bissett has a gift for condensing weighty feelings into something widely catchy. "Are we in love yet?" is a sonic embodiment of late-night overanalyzing, of reading too much or not enough into every glance, every pause, and every unsent text. It's a puddle of a song, and it's a ton of fun. And, as with any tremendous indie anthem, it's even better when it comes around again.
