Somebody’s Child capture quick youth with anthemic new single “Time Of My Life”

Somebody’s Child is back, and they’re hitting harder than ever. Launching this new chapter is “Time Of My Life,” a big, anthemic swell of nostalgia and raw emotion. It acts as the first taste of When Youth Fades Away, the band’s sophomore album, which is set to drop on March 28, 2025.

“Time Of My Life” proves that most successful songs don’t require overthinking, just feeling. It has a galvanizing two-chord chorus but bears the heft of an entire coming-of-age film condensed to three and a half minutes. “Pure elation” is how the frontman Cian Godfrey describes songwriting as a sustained moment; you can hear that immediacy in every note. The track unfolds like a memory playing forward, blurry, beautiful, elusive.

This isn’t simply another indie-rock nostalgia trip, however. Produced by the Grammy-winning Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), the song’s sound finds a middle ground between the intimate and the cinematic. Godfrey’s vocals pierce layers of shimmering synths and driving percussion for a track that is deeply personal and, at the same time, sonically universal.

If Somebody’s Child’s debut album taught us how to feel, When Youth Fades Away is here to remind us. And “Time Of My Life” reminds us that celebrating the past one thunderous chorus at a time is the best way forward.
