Matilda Mann returns with "Meet Cute," the latest look at her genre-defying debut album, Roxwell, due out on Feb. 28, 2025. The album has already been dubbed one of next year's most exciting records. If the first three singles are any indication, Matilda is making a record that feels both deeply personal and utterly relatable, and "Meet Cute" is no exception.
With her were her new live bandmates, as she gaffled her new material semi-documentary style while on tour with Wallows and next coming up, Role Model, and on the very first stop of the Model Tour in Brussels, Belgium, Matilda sat down with us to talk about her upcoming single "Meet Cute," and her excitement around translating the singer-songwriter's visions of a stage life for it.
"It's one of those songs where it feels like you're inside your little rom-com," she grins. And that's precisely what "Meet Cute" is a dreamy, heart-fluttering indie-pop gem that embodies the serendipitous magic of love at first sight. With Matilda's signature soft, honeyed vocals wafting through warm guitar melodies and understated but catchy percussion, "Meet Cute" has a welcoming nostalgia, as if flipping through a scrapbook of your best moments.
Live audiences have already sacrificed themselves to its charm, and it's not hard to understand why. Matilda has a knack for keeping love songs refreshingly honest, never contrived, and always laid-back and incredible.
With "Meet Cute," she further solidifies what makes her one of the most interesting voices in indie music right now. If this is but one more stop on the road to Roxwell, we can't wait to hear what follows.
