OHNomad has released a single, “Place of Origins: Movement III,” which poignantly reflects the fragile equilibrium between our origins and our future. This movement, part of Owens Huang’s Sonata “Place of Origins,” combines flute, cello, and piano to create a hauntingly beautiful piece that encapsulates the emotional complexity of Taiwanese immigrants in the United States.
The piece serves as both a sonic journey and a contemplation of the lives of those who navigate between two cultures. As a fund manager, he meditated on Taiwan, his homeland, while traveling to global financial conferences, mainly as Taiwan gained international geopolitical attention. This dual experience is expressed through the intricate interplay between the flute, cello, and piano, with each instrument weaving its narrative while contributing to a unified whole.
The flute delicately dances, symbolizing the hope and resilience of people who have endured numerous challenges. The rich and resonant cello voices the deep-seated longing for a homeland that remains just beyond reach. Meanwhile, the piano provides a stable yet unpredictable foundation, mirroring the uncertainty of a rapidly changing world.
