Mafalda Minnozzi reimagines a Brazilian classic “A Felicidade / Consolação”

Some songs carry sadness quietly, while others actively search for ways to transform it. In “A Felicidade / Consolação,” the Italian-Brazilian artist Mafalda Minnozzi offers a heartfelt take on a classic piece from Brazil’s bossa nova era.

Known as the Ambassador of Italian Song in Brazil and a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, Mafalda pays tribute to the original work by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes. Her version honors the song’s roots while also exploring its deeper emotions. The arrangement has a vibrant, Afro-Brazilian feel that makes it stand out. Guitarist Paul Ricci adds dynamic energy that helps the song pulse with life, making its sadness feel more present instead of lingering in the background.

Mafalda also includes an interlude featuring "Consolação," a piece by Vinicius de Moraes and Baden Powell, which connects beautifully with the main song. This combination creates a dialogue between two expressions of deep sadness while also showing a journey through those feelings.

What makes Mafalda’s interpretation special is its approach to melancholy. Instead of simply accepting sadness, it suggests we must confront it and eventually overcome it. This perspective adds both openness and strength to her performance. “A Felicidade / Consolação” becomes more than a thoughtful revisit of familiar music, it becomes a powerful blend of voice, guitar, and tradition. Mafalda’s interpretation breathes new life into beloved Brazilian songs, making them feel fresh and relevant once again.
