Sometimes the most interesting musical ideas come from the most unexpected places. C’batch's "Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light) 4 – Cinematic" came from a guitar solo that was part of a different composition but ended up in the latest volume of the Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light) project.
The track is the latest single to be lifted from the EP Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light) and has a particularly personal creative history. At its heart is a C’batch guitar solo, originally performed over another of the artist’s pieces. C’batch saw it as a chance to turn that performance into something else, rather than letting it return to the setting in which it was made. It gives the release an interesting sense of growth. Sometimes a musical phrase can take on a whole new character when it is transferred to a new setting, and Cinematic reflects this kind of metamorphosis.
The idea to add a new track to a guitar performance already in existence also points to the experimental character of C’batch’s creative process. The artist has not treated the material as something finished once it is done, but as something that can continue to develop.
