Audra Watt’s new single "Catchphrases" turns everyday words into a lasting legacy

In an age where songs are typically written for the moment, Audra Watt’s new single, "Catchphrases", is a tribute to the words we cling to for life. The track is a carefully designed piece that highlights how language creates family, identity, and connection across generations.

"Catchphrases", co-written with Rebecca Lynn Howard and Fred DiBlasio, was inspired by a simple yet emotional family occasion. At a Father’s Day party, Watt heard her father’s familiar expressions in the voices of her own children. That insight formed the seed for a song on how sayings, nuggets of wisdom, and ordinary phrases become woven into who we are and how we carry the people we love with us.

The catchphrases are not grandiose, but the premise is approachable, and the emotions are genuine, and that’s what makes it work. Watt turns a universal experience into an intimate and powerful meditation, encouraging listeners to reflect on the words that have passed through their own families and communities. The outcome is a song that is at once personal and universal, thoughtful and hopeful, continuous and new.

The tune was recorded at Vibe King Studio, East Nashville, and features the creative chemistry Watt has with his long-time colleagues Andrew King and Skyler Taylor. Working together, they lend clarity to her artistic vision and, in turn, create a space for the song to shine through spontaneously, without interruption.
