Soraia delivers a twist with indie rock anthem "Body In The Backyard" [Review]

Philadelphia rock renegades Soraia are hitting the ground running with their new single "Body in the Backyard," a bold, punk-tinged slapstick making fun of the chaos of modern life. The verse riff snakes along with a foreboding insistence, building tension that is only absorbed and returned in cathartic howls by the hook.

Frontwoman ZouZou describes the song in her own words as, "This is pure satire, and it's a commentary on the state of the world, and it's meant to be funny." With her cheeky delivery of such imagery into a tongue-in-cheek punchline, it shows that punk rock can also still be just as dangerously fun. Backing her in this romp are founder, co-writer, bassist, and backing vocalist Travis Smith, who rounds things out, aided by drummer Brianna Sig and guitarist Mike Jaffe, a proficient crew that can bottle some severe chaos into a thrill ride.

They embody the raw energy of Iggy Pop, Joan Jett, The Cramps, and PJ Harvey, respectively, but merge into something uniquely their own. In an ocean of overwrought indie rock, though, this song is a fleeting memory that makes punk and garage rock timeless, humorous, and full of surprise. With this single, Soraia pulls you into their world, where danger and wit all come from the same source. And honestly, you'll want to stay there.
