It's a bit clichéd when one track can make you want to throw your arms in the air while walking down a runway and dancing like no one's watching, all within three minutes. You know you've got something special on your hands. Producer ONiGS and underground pop sensation Mishell Ivon have precisely what you need with their latest single "iNViSiBLE"
Striking with the kind of supercharged, kaleidoscopic production that sets fire to his anarchic sense of melody while blurring the lines between rock, pop, electronic pop, and funky-edged alternative. It oozes the swagger of Michael Jackson, the unfiltered cool of Prince, and the futuristic shine of Daft Punk. Instead of simply imitating those icons, ONiGS and Ivon transform the recipe into something that feels entirely their own, new, futuristic, and very danceable.
"iNViSiBLE" stands out, snagging the listener in the first few seconds with a blasting beat that doesn't do subtle. Both drips are accompanied by a slinky funk rock guitar riff weaving through them, with neon, futuristic synths twinkling like nighttime skyline lights. Followed by Ivon's vocals, the smoothest velvet merged with an electric charge and melodies that hold you ransom. She has a powerful and commanding presence, but the intensity that she delivers in this performance manages to find some incredible intimacy. This track seeps into the chest and shoulders, and then there is a magnetic draw towards the dance floor. Beneath the glitter and groove, there's a hint of feeling. Here, we find a subtle acknowledgement of what it means to remain unseen, yet still feel at ease in your skin.
There is a careful production that never loses spontaneity. A record that is layered with a precision from which many studio architects could learn, but never sounds too over-polished, as so often artifacts like these wind up feeling. Instead, it pops, with every synth twinkle, guitar strum, and percussive snap feeling as if created in proximity a lot of the time.
