The title of the debut album, "Long Time Comin" makes you think that this band must have some seriously gritty, purposeful, no-holding-back music in store. With their second single, "Drive" Lot Long has done just that with a blistering, full-throttle Hard Rock Alternative Metal track that doesn't just rev the engine, but floors it.
"Drive" sets its tone from the first crashing chord. Thick, unapologetic guitars are present in riffs that seem manufactured in a back-alley machine shop. Those drums are doing a lot more than only keeping time, they want to break the speed limit. There's a restless energy to be found here, the kind that you'd expect from a band with something still to prove.
On the vocal front, "Drive" is every bit as intense as the instrumentation warms to life. That they are never unrestrained and out-of-tune yet also melodic but not wimpy renders the track more gnarly than simply violent. The performance is drenched in conviction. Each line could be from the front seat of a car driving 90 miles an hour, eyes glued to the horizon.
"Drive" is the assertion. In no uncertain terms, it is a noisy, self-confident act of defiance. Lot Long is not here to be polite and vaporize discreetly into the background, they are a motley crew crashing the festivities, smashing furniture through windows, and promptly setting the house on fire. People might cruise, but here is something they can't do that with. This music needs a long way home, and your mirrors weren't straight when you left home. Survive & floor it.
