Roko Mouth releases the summer punk anthem of the year with "Peach Fuzz" [Review]

In "Peach Fuzz," Roko Mouth not only captures the sound of summer, but they weaponize it. The punk quartet's latest single is a high-voltage ride through sun-drenched distortion and adolescent soul-searching, flipping the casual vibe of a day at the beach into something much more restrained. Based in post-hardcore grit and infused with the rhythmic undertones of surf rock, "Peach Fuzz" serves as an anthem for everyone who has stumbled while navigating their own coming-of-age tale.

Ripping through the track, Rory Branagan's vocals exude urgency, providing melody and mayhem in equal parts. He's surrounded by George Watermeyer's bass lines and harmonies, and Finn Connolly's lead guitar, which is equally at home in vintage rock theatrics and punk-fueled chaos. The most recent addition to the solidified lineup is Charlotte Redhead, the band's new drummer, who joined in 2025. The band now moves at an even fiercer stride of cohesiveness. You can hear it coming in all the kicks and crashes. There's an undeniable tip of the hat to rock 'n' roll's golden age, with traces of Elvis's bravado slipping through the crevices but without delay cascading into the loose cannons that are The Clash or The Ramones. It's a homage and next-level.

Behind the scorching guitar riffs and heaving drum fills of "Peach Fuzz" is a more thoughtful story of moving from simple wonder to nuanced understanding. The peach fuzz metaphor, both a sign of youth and the promise of transmutation, is fantastically employed in the song. They serve as a reminder of the unsettling moment you discover the world isn't as soft and sweet as you thought it was, along with the growing pains that accompany that realization. "Peach Fuzz" is a wave of reckoning wrapped in reverb. Their sound is a stadium-sized wallop one minute and an intimate punch to the heart the next, and Roko Mouth is in their own lane. If this is what the band sounds like with a bit of fuzz, the future is going to be loud.
