If punk had a glam child whose calling card was emotional discord, Faeser would be the clad godparent of that child giving birth in its mind-bending neon. And on their new single, “No Such Thing,” Faeser don’t exactly walk onstage, they drop a match and stand back. Led by using-brained and full-throttle Jessica James, this band is shouting it loud and proud there’s no such thing as too much, and thank fuck for that.
“No Such Thing” digs its glitter-painted claws in good and deep. James’ vocals vacillate between unhinged fury and pining openness with a conviction that could only be the product of a man who has lived several lifetimes in one. It’s this volatile vocal force that grounds the song, pulling the listener through grimy terrain without ever losing its hold on melodic gravity. The production hits hard but remains in check. There’s a controlled chaos at work here, a mix of thundering guitars, stomping rhythms, and delicate, reserved moments that make for an edge-of-your-seat listen. It’s an emotional rollercoaster wearing sequins and fishnets, begging you not to turn away. The difference with Faeser is his thematic fidelity to theatricality without compromising authenticity. It’s all quite sincere in “No Such Thing.” It’s a nerve in a leather jacket, a diary entry bellowed into a mic under red stage lights. The band’s signature freak-show glam aesthetic is not just a look, it’s an invitation into a universe where outsiders are bosses, and honesty is the deadliest weapon.
With an ever-expanding international fan base quickly losing their minds over their passion, Faeser is not simply creating music, they’re moving. This latest number sounds like a rallying cry for anybody who’s ever felt too much, loved too hard, screamed into the void for something real.
