Point of Madness channels emotions into new single "Jealousy" [Review]

Point of Madness is a blast of unprocessed, analog fresh air. Their track "Jealousy" is an emotional time bomb, a lo-fi time capsule, and a tribute to 80s new wave brilliance. Created initially in a garage, armed with only one microphone, a bass guitar, a six-string, and a modest interface, this DIY magic reminds us why we fell in love with music. The chemistry of their sounds is found in every bar of "Jealousy." It is retro but isn't reflective, for memory's sake. Instead, they dip into the emotional grind of yesteryear and package it in something that feels new, emotionally in tune, and undeniably current.

Sem's vocals are the emotional center here. Written after a breakup, his delivery is bruised but proud, wearing the pain of a broken heart with a soft punk sneer. There's a fierce, raw, personally unfiltered feel to the performance. Layer on top of that Floris's steady, driving bassline and Kay's crisp, melodic guitar riffs, and you have a track that could snugly sit on a late-night indie playlist today.

"Jealousy" is not perfect, and that's precisely the point. The grit in the mix and the slight roughness contribute to its rawness. It's a song that has to be made, and you can hear it every second. Point of Madness is making messy, human, and alive music. "Jealousy" reminds us that heartbreak can be massive even without a high-end studio, and all you need is a heart, a good riff, and a garage. If this is what they're up to barely a year out, Point of Madness is a name to watch. And if you've ever been young, in love, and entirely destroyed by it, "Jealousy" will strike right between the ribs.
