Not every track can make you laugh, think, and bob your head simultaneously. Mickzart X Kadillac's "Sundrive" ft Curtis does so easily. Debuting as the second single from the duo's debut album, Custard Cream Dreams, this anthem to Dublin is as cheeky as it is cutting, laying into gentrification over a breezy, infectious instrumental.
Self-produced by Mickzart, the track is a summer journey through the old Crumlin before Google Maps called it Kimmage were replaced with overpriced delis and shite coffee. With Curtis on the closer, hype energy bringing a bow to an already colorful package, "Sundrive" is as much a love letter to the area as a tongue-in-cheek warning about what it's becoming. Kadillac takes over with his comedic bars hitting a little too close to home.
The divide is apparent PIPs and its iconic sambos are the old guard, whereas Pickles (albeit Mickzart admits the sandwiches slap) is the posh rebrand of a once-gritty part of town. Kadillac does not mince words here, dragging oat milk, roasted almonds, or the gentrified norm-core breakfast culture through the mud.
Crumlin duo Mickzart and Kadillac have been slowly but surely making a name since they debuted their YouTube channel, D12 Incorporated, this time last year. Mickzart is already cutting his teeth as a producer, and his sound is behind Qbanaa and Absentee, to name a few. This new phase has seen Mickzart link up with Kadillac to tell their own stories from their studio, Vision Lab, deep in the heart of Dublin 12.
