Joe Lapinski captures the chaos of new love in "I Know This" [Review]

St. Catharines' Joe Lapinski is back with an electric shot of emotion in the track "I Know This," a track that doesn't simply wear its emotion and puts it in motion. The second single from his forthcoming album "New Day," which is set to be released on June 27, 2025, this indie/alternative rock track serves as a shining testament to the intoxicating rush of falling fast and falling hard.

"I Know This" hurls you into the eye of emotional urgency. Co-produced by Dave Clark (of Gord Downie's Country of Miracles and Rheostatics fame), the track combines Lapinski's characteristic indie rough around the edges with a dance floor New Wave beat. Think of the Talking Heads on a heart-racing joyride with Sonic Youth, filtered through Lapinski's earnest, unvarnished perspective.

The arrangements are tight but raw. The rhythm section lands precisely as textures whirl like flashing lights on a dance floor of memory and discovery. But what truly makes the track is its soaring saxophone, played by Karen Ng (The Weather Station, Andy Shauf). Her solo not only lifts the track but transcends it. It's as if the sax is channeling every unspoken word, every breathless rhythm of falling in love.

Lapinski explained that for "I Know This," he wanted to reflect on the chaos that new love brings its beauty, ache, and terrifying honesty. That emotional tug-of-war is cooked into every second of the song. Lapinski's latest cut is a song you want to give into, whether you're dancing in the kitchen or pondering your twisted heart. With "I Know This," Joe Lapinski provides a moment. And it's one that you'll want to keep within reach.
