HKSPK summon shadows on "Zur Letzten Rauhnacht"

Austrian black metal conjurers HKSPK have revealed their latest ode to the haunting allure of imperfection, atmosphere, and uncensored creative urge, “Zur Letzten Rauhnacht.” The song is a homage to genre tradition and a personal exorcism of anger turned inspiration.

The song’s origin story is fantastic, the kind of alchemy that frequently starts in the least likely places. Their drummer came up with the main guitar melody despite not playing it. That outsider spark, unconcerned with the rules, turns the backbone of an atmospherically haunting track.

It’s a meditation on blow, inspired by a less-than-stellar turn in 2024, based on its lyrics. It was a non-existent show, but HKSPK distilled their awkward energy into something extraordinary and venomous. They say we just started going with the flow, and that feeling of intuitive, follow-the-path-of-least-resistance splurge bleeds through every icy tremolo and feral blast beat.
