Band of Muses' debut "Cinnamon" is a spellbinding psychedelic burn

Band of Muses is here, and their single debut "Cinnamon" is nothing shy of a sound séance. It's an invocation.

Like they rise from the spiritual shadows of Laurel Canyon, the sister duo Penny-Scarlett Muse and Daisy Rose Muse conjure something rare, a sound that feels both ancient and freshly conjured. Their project, Band of Muses, is not so much a band as an ecstatic transmission from some parallel realm where dark, velvet-lined rock 'n' roll rubs shoulders with witchy folk mysticism. And "Cinnamon" is the spell that opens the portal.

The song unspools like a dream, only half-recalled, honeyed, haunted, and dripping with sensual recollections. It's folk-rock crossed with stardust, a slow-and-smoldering pulse like incense ash curling up to the ceiling. Vocals arrive in a whisper, one you might insist had visited during a fever dream, winding around hypnotic guitar work and a lo-fi rhythm section that thumps with a vintage soul.

"Cinnamon" is not content with resting on revivalism. It has a sly danger, an unfenced electric fence you find yourself inching closer to, uncertain if you're being seduced or called out. The tension between the holy and the electric makes this debut unforgettable.
