There is something magical about how a song can stop time, and in ArtfulFrankArthur's new release, "Moment," that magic seems to be in full effect.
"Moment" is the Second single from the Finnish solo project of multi-instrumentalist Simo Andersén, released this April. A natural progression from February's "Reflection," this new single further refines the project's sound, which is guitar-forward and emotionally textured, combining Nordic melancholy with melodic panache.
Formed around a tightly knit tapestry of interweaving guitars and soaring hooks, "Moment" takes you as soon as it starts with endearing urgency. Entrepreneur behind the project, Andersén, sings and plays everything except the drums, which are kept restrained by Viljo Rissanen. The outcome is an intimate yet lush production that feels hand-fashioned, not overscrubbed.
"Moment" is just flat-out good, with an almost vibe, enhanced by the warm, dynamic mix of Tuomas Kokko at Electric Fox Studios and the mastery of Janne Hakala. The track swells with intentions. Its verses tiptoe with self-assured introspection, then ascend into choruses that pump with fillip. Andersén's guitar doesn't just support the song, it guides it, filling every phrase with a bittersweet yearning for release.
While the lyrics remain perplexing, the emotional heft can be sensed in tone and texture. "Moment" doesn't shout for attention. Instead, it tarries, like an unfinished thought or an unreluctant memory.
