Adult Leisure seliver a flashy breakup anthem with "See Her" [Review]

With "See Her," Adult Leisure serves up a sugar rush of indie-pop energy. With this one, the Bristol-based quartet has bottled lightning, a sunburst of memory-drenched melodies, sticky hooks, and biting lyrical wit that feels cathartic and celebratory. Recorded and mixed at Humm Studios by Ollie Searle and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, Duran Duran), the result is that "See Her" is slick and punchy in equal doses. The track throbs with joyful defiance, dancing in the wreckage that remains once you've outgrown a relationship.

Lead vocalist and lyricist Neil Scott tears down the emotional barriers with quite a cynical eye. Instead of wallowing, "See Her" reverses the message, making post-breakup contemplation an empowering recognition that you're much better off. It's a breakup song that gets to laugh last and the loudest. That winking optimism, paired with Adult Leisure's already-signature melodic glow, gives the song a vibe that feels like a modern indie-pop anthem. "See Her" shines with the appearance of saxophonist John Waugh, who adds a glimmering, golden layer to the track's conclusion.

This last dash of spice is a song closer that could tip the song from great into glorious. It's a short leap to imagining this as a fan-favorite sing-along at some future live show. Scott says that the song means everything to the band, and you can feel it. You can hear the time, growth, and passion that went into making it. It's unapologetically pop but very Adult Leisure, a group still developing its sound with poetic honesty and a wink of self-awareness. "See Her" is about liberation in the aftermath and having the best time in the process.
