Paul Cafcae gives the pedal a swift kick in his latest single, “Devil’s Right Hand,” a full-on rock song that feels like it was conceived in a barroom brawl and then washed clean by gasoline.
“Devil’s Right Hand” is a swaggering statement. Cafcae doubles down on his raw vocals and jagged guitar work, passing this blues-drenched rocker off like it’s been aging in a whiskey barrel. Think vintage soul grit with a modern edge and enough swagger to keep your boots tapping independently. Backed by a powerhouse rhythm section that includes Ethan Tilbury (@ethantilbury) on upright bass and Diana Herrera (@zafdii) on drums, a partnership that doesn’t so much hold down the groove as throw it into overdrive. On upright bass, Tilbury growls with punchy authority, and Herrera lays down a beat that’s all muscle and finesse. Both also join the chorus, with smoky, back-alley harmonies that echo the track’s outlaw spirit as the gunfire fades away.
Andy Dmytryshyn (@nailshitter) captured and mixed the production at School House Studios in Hamilton, Ontario. The production is raw in all the right spots and polished where it matters most. Each guitar lick and drum hit lands with deliberate force. Jamie King ( @machinejk76 ) puts the final shine on mastering to ensure the song sounds as explosive piping through your headphones as through a bar jukebox.
