Bonneville's "Lady of the Tennessee" is a soul-drenched southern rock

"Lady of Tennessee" is Bonneville's retro-soul duo's attempt to notch deeper into the Southern rock canon.

As the seventh single from their forthcoming second album, "Lady of Tennessee" walks right into the hallowed halls of Muscle Shoals and lights a candle in respect. Part swampy groove, part spiritual reckoning, "Lady of Tennessee," recorded at the iconic FAME Studios, channels the redemptive heart of the South through slide guitars and smoke-laced vocals.

Lead vocalist Wes McGee coats the whole affair in smoke, and it shows. His voice aches and swells over a live-wire rhythm section by The Shoal Nuff Band, who channel that Muscle Shoals magic with swagger and restraint.

Listeners may feel the pull. Bonneville is evolving. "Lady of the Tennessee" is a love letter to Muscle Shoals deeper into the soul.
