The Vices return with their most introspective and compelling release, "Before It Might Be Gone." The 10-track project, produced by Alt-J's Charlie Andrew, follows the dizzying highs and crushing lows of personal growth, layered over an intoxicating mix of pop-rock, alternative, and punk rock.
"Before It Might Be Gone" is about accepting change whether you like it or not," frontman Floris van Luijtelaar explains. It's about confronting yourself and your fears and still hoping."
"Before It Might Be Gone, "make sure you are plunged into a vise-like investigation of inner conflict. The first track follows the tale of someone masking the pain through bad habits, then 'How Does It Feel' chronicles a story around past mistakes and the understanding that before, can only come real change."
One of the highlights arrives with 'Shaking Shoulder,' a whirlwind of love, loss , and doubt. With a sing-along bait and a chipper instrumental, the song encapsulates the bittersweet nature of devotion and uncertainty. "Hope You Know," however, features their trademark layered harmonies and lush instrumentation, a testament to their talent for creating haunting and mood-boosting soundscapes. "Before It Might Be Gone" ends on a poignant note with 'Still They Might Not Like It, a song that explores the anxieties of seeking validation, no matter how well one redeems oneself.
"Hear with savage lyricism, explosive choruses, and a willingness for fearless contemplation, Before It Might Be Gone solidifies The Vices as a band that won't be pinned down.
