Lyric Jones is back with a new single, “Better Now,” after a four-year break. The LA-based vocalist, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist rings out on her latest single with a warm, ambient deep house groove, full of introspection and resilience. “Unbreakable,” released on June 10, 2024, blends soulful melodies, electro-tinged synths, and a four-on-the-floor beat, a thrilling new chapter for the boundary-defying artist.
“Better Now” is a statement. Lyric’s lush, plaintive vocals float seamlessly over OP Miller’s production, threading a narrative about self-discovery and resilience. There is no sugarcoating the journey in the lyrics, which acknowledge the struggles accompanying growth and serve as a reminder that progress is not linear. “Better doesn’t mean perfect. It means doing what you can to make for a brighter tomorrow.”
As if the original was not enough of a vibe, Lyric Jones also released a remix EP with new versions from Ian Wallace, Zo! ⦁ Tall Black Guy ⦁ XL Middleton ⦁ Soul Clap. The latter, specializing in deep-dive house cuts, elevated “Better Now” further with a hypnotic dub mix exclusive to Bandcamp and a limited-edition vinyl release.
Eli of Soul Clap explains, “We wanted to capture some of that classic 90s MAW b-side sound, honing in on Lyric’s harmonies and wrapping them in a hypnotic loop. It was about catching that essence and allowing it to breathe with warm textures and groove-heavy basslines.”
With “Better Now,” Lyric Jones shows she’s not just back. She’s a new artist. Overall, “Better Now” is a story of endurance, rebirth, and the healing properties of music.
