Lyn Lapid unveils a hauntingly relatable ode to loneliness with a new single, "Coraline"

Lyn Lapid nails that strange loneliness, which can creep up on you in a crowded room at a party where you should be having fun with the new single "Coraline." You're supposed to go on an adventure when you move to a new place. In a new city, new faces and new possibilities. But at times, all that "new" leaves you adrift.

"Coraline" instantly latches onto you with a distorted guitar intro that lends an eerie, almost dreamlike quality. Then come the pounding drums, the anxious heartbeat of someone who suddenly finds they don't belong. Lapid's frail but imperative vocals draw us deeper into her world as "Coraline" progresses. It hits like a gut punch: "And now I feel like Coraline. Everywhere I go, Nothin' feels like home." A direct reference to the Coraline book and movie, the opening lyrics capture that uncanny sensation of entering a place that appears familiar but feels wrong.

This sense of detachment is heightened in the music video. Lapid navigates a house party as if she were invisible, surrounded by people, and completely alone. Muted blues and purples seep over her isolation, and warmer reds and oranges flash here in moments of frustration. It's a graphic depiction of the emotional whiplash of being the outsider.
