Hippy releases haunting new single "Tupilaq"

Hippy is back, and with a track that lingers after the last note, they're thinking about 2025. Their new single, "Tupilaq," is a boisterous but moody continuation of their canon of emotionally propelled rock anthems.

Fueled by Hippy's trademark soaring guitars, soulful vocals, and engaging lyricism, "Tupilaq" adds a whole new sonic layer with the recent addition of keys-player Benjamin Emerson. The result? A hauntingly atmospheric sound blend combining classic indie-rock grit with a cinematic, even magical quality. On a lyrical level, "Tupilaq" evokes the eerie, folk-inspired idea of a "Tupilaq," a vengeful spirit from Greenlandic mythology. But at its essence, it's a song about reckoning, consequence, and the specters we make.

Hippy, fronted by Paul Hipson (vox) and Hugh Frizell (guitars), has been making a name for itself on the indie side since it formed in late 2019. Their two prior albums, Behind Every Song, Is A Story (2020) and Falling in Love With Being Alive (2022), established them on the scene as storytellers with a flair for melody and heart-pounding rock energy. "Waiting For Love," "Collateral," and "Boho Eskimo" have been played on BBC Radio Scotland, among others, and Billy Sloan has championed their work.
