Ashnikko returns, louder and angrier than before, with her blistering new track, “You Make Me Sick!” A venomous mash-up of industrial beats, nu-metal grit, and her signature razor-sharp lyricism, “You Make Me Sick!” is a complete sonic gambit that is brash, unrepentant, and downright addictive.
“You Make Me Sick!” is produced by longtime collaborators Slinger and Oscar Scheller and opens with distorted guitar riffs that sound like they were ripped right out of a mosh pit. And then Ashnikko does what she does best, which is to eviscerate. She blasts through an ex-lover with full-throttle rage, screeching, “You fucking loser!” with a kind of catharsis that leaves you itching to punch a hole in the drywall (or at least scream along in the car).
“I’ve chosen to return with my most furious cathartic song yet,” Ashnikko says. “It’s my rage room for me to smash my plates.” And smash she does sonically and visually.
The music video, directed by Saam Farahmand, is as creepy as it is hypnotic. It opens with an outwardly ordinary dance sequence before falling headfirst into Ashnikko’s distinct brand of grotesque surrealism. Mysterious black tumors bloom all over her face, a nightmarish network of interconnected tubes churns with primal viscous goop, and lunatic maelstroms erupt. It’s weird, it’s genius, and it’s peak Ashnikko.
